FAQs

Where will we meet?

I offer in person and virtual psychotherapy services to Texas residents. When the world upended itself in the height of the COVID pandemic, I was concerned about the quality of virtual therapy. Thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised to find that virtual therapy is just as deep and impactful as in-person. And research backs this up! As long as you have a private space to meet and adequate internet connection, research has shown that virtual therapy is just as effective as in-person. However, for clients that would prefer to meet in-person I have an office available for face-to-face sessions in East Austin.

What will the first session be like?

The first session will last for 50 minutes. This is a time for us to begin getting to know each other, revisit your reasons for entering therapy, and identify your therapeutic goals. During the intake session, I will share details regarding my practice and assess any physical factors that may be impacting your mental health (e.g., health, sleep, diet, etc.). I invite you to share any curiosities you have about my background and questions you have about the therapeutic process in general or regarding work with me specifically.

What if I need more information before scheduling a session?

No problem! Finding the right therapist for YOU and your needs is important. To help you decide whether we might be a good fit, I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation. During the phone consultation, I invite you to share your reason for seeking therapy at this time and allow us both to get to know each other a bit more to determine whether booking an initial session is a next good step. The consultation is not a therapy session persay, though I hope it feels therapeutic to you and helps you discern the next steps for your mental health and wellness.

What is the cost?

My rate is $135/50-min session. I offer a limited number of reduced fee spots based on your income. If cost would be a barrier to you at all, please ask me for more information about the reduced fee program.

Do you accept insurance?

I am currently considered an out-of-network provider. If you have an FSA (flexible spending account) or HSA (health savings account), you may be able to use these funds to pay for therapy sessions. I also provide a monthly itemized receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider directly for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Please consult with your benefits provider to confirm your eligibility for out-of-network mental health benefits.

How long will therapy last?

Good and tough question! This is entirely up to you: your needs, present issue, desires, and resources. Sometimes things can get worse before they get better, and I invite clients to hang in there (I will be with you the whole way!) as we process what brought you into therapy. Please let me know if you have specific curiosities or considerations regarding therapy length (e.g., an upcoming move, financial constraints), and we can discuss further. I am happy to collaborate with you on what feels good to you and will offer you the most support.
